Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Welcome to Tally ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your personal data and your right to privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our Apple Watch application and companion iOS app.
2. Information We Collect
Tally is designed with a local-first architecture. We collect minimal data:
- Match Data: Scores, match settings, and game history are stored locally on your device. This data is never transmitted to our servers.
- Watch ↔ iPhone Sync:Matches scored on your Apple Watch are mirrored to the paired iPhone using Apple's Watch Connectivity framework. Sync happens device-to-device over Apple's secure channel and does not pass through our servers.
- Live Activities, Widgets & Dynamic Island:Live match scores surfaced on your iPhone's Lock Screen, Dynamic Island, and home or lock screen widgets are rendered from data already stored on your device. No live score data is sent off-device.
- Purchase & Subscription Information:Payment for the base app and any Tally Pro subscription is processed entirely through Apple's App Store. Apple shares only an anonymous transaction receipt with us so we can validate your purchase or subscription status on-device. We never see or store your name, email, or payment details.
- Device Information: We may collect basic device information (device model, OS version) solely for crash reporting and app compatibility purposes.
3. Health & Fitness Data (HealthKit)
Tally integrates with Apple HealthKit and Apple Fitness to enhance your workout tracking experience. Your health data is handled with the highest level of care:
- What We Read: Heart rate and active calorie data during matches, used to display real-time workout metrics on your watch.
- What We Write: Completed matches are saved as Racquet Sports workout sessions in Apple Health, including duration, active calories, and heart rate samples. These workouts also contribute to your Apple Fitness Move and Exercise rings.
- On-Device Only: All HealthKit data stays on your device. It is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
- Your Permission Required:Tally will only access HealthKit data after you explicitly grant permission. Permissions are granular — you can allow or deny reads and writes independently, and you can disable workout tracking per sport inside Tally. You can revoke access at any time in Settings > Health > Data Access & Devices.
4. Tally Pro & On-Device AI Analysis
Tally Pro is an optional subscription that adds AI-powered match analysis (post-match narrative recaps, the Coach's Report, cross-match pattern detection, heart-rate × performance correlation, and the Ask Coach chat). Privacy is central to how Pro works:
- On-Device Processing:All AI analysis and Ask Coach chat responses run locally using Apple's Foundation Models framework on your iPhone. Your match and health data is never uploaded to our servers, OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or any other third-party AI provider.
- No Training on Your Data:We do not use your matches, scores, heart-rate data, Coach's Reports, or Ask Coach conversations to train or fine-tune any model.
- Chat History:Ask Coach conversations are stored locally on your iPhone so you can revisit prior answers. You can clear them at any time from the app's settings, and uninstalling the app removes them entirely.
- Scope: The Pro AI only reads match data and health metrics already stored locally on your device. It does not request new permissions or access data beyond what the base app already uses.
- Subscription Validation: Apple tells your device whether your Tally Pro subscription is active. We do not maintain a separate user database.
5. How We Use Your Information
The limited data we may collect is used exclusively for:
- App Functionality: Providing core score tracking features and maintaining your local match history.
- Crash Reporting: Identifying and fixing bugs to improve app stability.
- App Improvement: Understanding general usage patterns (anonymized) to improve the user experience.
6. Data Storage & Security
All match data is stored locally on your Apple Watch and/or paired iPhone using secure on-device storage. We do not operate cloud servers for user data storage. Your scores and match history remain entirely on your devices.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. We do not use advertising SDKs or analytics services that track individual users. Any crash reporting data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify you personally.
User-Initiated Sharing:When you tap “Share” on a match summary or weekly digest, Tally generates an iMessage share card or image locally on your device and hands it off to Apple's system share sheet. We do not see, store, or transmit the card's contents — Apple delivers it directly to the recipient you choose.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: All your data is already on your device and accessible to you.
- Deletion: You can delete all app data by uninstalling the app from your device. Since data is stored locally, uninstalling removes everything.
- Portability: Your match history is available within the app on your device.
9. Children's Privacy
Tally does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is a general-audience score tracking utility that does not require account creation or personal data input.
